Advanced Spearfishing Practical Course

Overview

The H2O Advanced Spearfishing Practical Course is designed for divers who already have basic spearfishing experience and want to refine their skills in deeper, more challenging environments. The course focuses on advanced hunting techniques, strategy, and fish-specific approaches — helping participants improve efficiency, accuracy, and success beyond 10 meters of depth.

Under professional supervision, students learn practical methods for different conditions, from shallow stalking to deep ambush and hole hunting, while maintaining maximum safety and control underwater.

Goals

• Improve existing spearfishing knowledge and apply advanced hunting strategies.
• Learn new techniques: deep stalking, ambush (čeka), and hole hunting.
• Understand predator behavior and how to approach specific fish species.
• Develop efficient energy use and calmness during deeper dives.
• Enhance underwater awareness, buddy coordination, and rescue skills.
• Eliminate common mistakes and shorten the learning curve toward consistent success.

Duration

Total: 16 hours (2 days of 8-hour practical training sessions).
Detailed scheduling and preparation instructions are provided after registration.

What’s included

• Professional instruction and full guidance in the water.
• Use of the H2O inflatable boat and fuel.
• Certified instructors (1 instructor per 3–4 participants).
• Maximum of 6 participants per course.

Equipment requirements

Participants must bring their own basic spearfishing gear:

• Long fins (please provide shoe size)
• 5 mm wetsuit with hood and long sleeves (provide height and weight)
• Mask and snorkel
• Weights
• Neoprene socks (provide shoe size)

Please inform us in advance which equipment you will bring or need to rent.

Equipment rental

• Mask + snorkel – €10
• Weights + wetsuit – €10
• Socks + fins – €10
• Speargun + other hunting equipment – €10

Upon returning the rented equipment, you will receive a voucher equal to the rental amount, valid for 14 days at the H2O Shop.
Lost or damaged items must be replaced with new ones.

Note: Do not buy new gear beforehand — you’ll be able to test various models during the course to find what suits you best.

Requirements

• Completion of the Spearfishing Theory Course.
• Minimum age: 16 years.
• Completion of the PSS Freediver Course or equivalent certification.
• Participants must obtain their own Croatian recreational spearfishing license (not included in price).
• Active membership in the H2O Team Association is required.

Schedule

Advanced Spearfishing Practical Courses are organised seasonally, primarily during spring and summer.

• Demonstration and correction of advanced spearfishing techniques.
• Stalking practice up to 10–15 m.
• Ambush hunting (čeka) up to 15 m.
• Hole hunting up to 15 m.
• Combination techniques adapted to conditions and fish behavior.
• Different methods of attracting predator fish.
• Approach strategies for specific fish species.
• Correction of common errors and optimization of technique.
• Deeper dives with a buddy, focusing on safety, rescue, and first aid.

Instructor

The course is led by Jure Daić, international PSS Instructor Trainer and certified Apnea College Spearfishing Instructor.
Practical sessions may also include assistant instructors to ensure personal guidance and maximum safety.
