Overview
The H2O Beginner Spearfishing Practical Course provides hands-on experience in safe weapon handling, beginner-level hunting techniques, and underwater safety. Designed for new or less experienced spearfishers, the course combines dry-land training, in-water practice, and real spearfishing sessions to help participants develop confidence, accuracy, and awareness below 10 meters of depth.
Goals
- Learn safe, correct, and effective handling of a speargun on land and in water.
- Understand maintenance, servicing, and optimization of spearguns.
- Practice aiming, target shooting, and underwater control.
- Master beginner hunting techniques: stalking (šulja), ambush (čeka), and combination methods.
- Focus on safety — personal protection, buddy supervision, and prevention of risky situations.
- Gain experience in teamwork, buddy diving, and rescue scenarios.
Duration
Total: 12 hours (2 days, 2×3-hour sessions of practical training).

What’s included
- Professional instruction and guidance.
- Use of the H2O inflatable boat and fuel costs.
- Certified instructors (1 instructor per 4 participants in the sea).

Equipment requirements
Participants need their own basic spearfishing equipment:
- Long fins (please provide shoe size)
- 5 mm wetsuit with hood and long sleeves (provide height and weight)
- Mask and snorkel
- Weights
- Neoprene socks (provide shoe size)
Equipment rental
If needed, equipment can be rented for a small fee per group:
- Mask + snorkel – €10
- Weights + wetsuit – €10
- Socks + fins – €10
- Speargun + hunting gear – €10
After returning the rented equipment, you’ll receive a voucher of equal value valid for 14 days at H2O Shop toward equipment purchase.
Lost or damaged equipment must be replaced.

Requirements
- Completion of the Spearfishing Theory Course.
- Minimum age: 16 years.
- Completion of the PSS Freediver Course (or equivalent certification).
- Participants must obtain their own Croatian recreational spearfishing license (not included in price).
- Active membership in the H2O Team Association is required.
Course program
- Maintenance, servicing, and tuning of spearguns on land.
- Safety procedures, weapon handling, and target shooting.
- Testing and comparison of different speargun models.
- Demonstration of hunting techniques and correction of common mistakes.
- Stalking practice (up to 5–6 m depth).
- Ambush hunting practice (up to 10 m depth).
- Team hunting with buddy system and mutual safety protocols.
- Rescue exercises and first aid basics.
Instructor
The course is led by Jure Daić, international PSS Instructor Trainer in freediving and certified Apnea College Spearfishing Instructor.
Practical sessions may be supported by additional certified instructors for optimal safety and efficiency.
