Overview
The PSS Freediving Instructor Course is designed for advanced freedivers ready to take the next step and begin teaching the next generation of divers. The course develops not only your technical diving expertise but also your ability to teach, lead, and inspire students in and out of the water.
During the program, candidates learn how to effectively deliver theoretical knowledge, demonstrate practical techniques, and ensure student safety at all times. Instructors are also trained in legal aspects, diving standards, marketing, pedagogy, communication, and course organization — gaining the skills to successfully teach freediving at all levels.
Performance requirements
To qualify for the PSS Instructor License, participants must meet the following minimum performance standards:
- Constant Weight (CWT): -40 m
- Dynamic Apnea (DYN): 100 m
- Static Apnea (STA): 4 min 30 s
- 5x CWT dives to -20 m with 60 s surface interval
- Rescue from -20 m
- Demonstration of all underwater swimming techniques
Course duration and structure
Total duration: 8 days
- Theoretical lectures
- First aid exam
- Oxygen administration exam
- Practical pool training sessions
- Visit to the Y-40 Deep Joy pool (Italy)
- Deep diving sessions on Krk (Croatia)
- Assisting in theory and pool sessions of PSS Freediver and Advanced Freediver courses (April or May)
- Assisting in open-water courses (May or June)
Locations
Theory and pool sessions are conducted in Maribor (Slovenia).
Deep-water sessions take place on Krk Island (Croatia) or in the Y-40 pool (Italy), depending on conditions.
Instructor
The course is led by Jure Daić, an international PSS Instructor Trainer and Head of the Freediving Section at PSS Worldwide. Practical sessions in pool and sea environments are supported by up to three assistant instructors to ensure personal supervision and maximum safety.

- PSS instructor registration: €205 + VAT
- First aid course: €100 (regular €150)
- Oxygen administration course: €100 (regular €150)

Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Successful completion of the PSS Advanced Freediver course or equivalent certification
- Recommended completion of the Master Class course
- Valid medical certificate for diving fitness
- Completed first aid and O₂ administration certifications (can be obtained during the instructor course)
- Passing both theoretical and practical final exams is required for certification
